45 kids attend, manamko’ no show at summer camp

Children age 6 to 13 continued to come in the first two days of the summer camp, according to sports coordinator, Derron Flores.

He noted that despite everybody’s cautiousness about the AH1N1 virus that have affected almost a dozen on the island, this year’s summer camp is still getting a good turn out.

A collaboration of DYS and Sports & Recs, Flores said the summer youth camp is held every year to keep the kids “preoccupied” by healthy outdoor activities during the summer.

This time, the DCCA came up with an idea of inviting the manamko’, and modified this year’s event as   Manamko’ yan Manhoben Mentorship Summer Program.

However, the manamko’ failed to show on the first and second day which was attended by 45 children. Kids, six to nine years old showed up on the first day while those 10 to 13 years old arrived yesterday.

Sports and Recreation Director Joe Lizama said they are expecting the senior citizens group to show up today and following summer camp schedules.

The activities for 13-and-under include basketball, tee ball, hip hop, volleyball and Polynesian dance.

In the 14 to 17 years old session, the youths and manamko’ will share skills in track field, soccer, softball and basketball.
