“Now is the time to decide who will be the 2011 Docomo Pacific/UBA Men’s Basketball League regular season’s Most Valuable Player.” said UBA President James Lee in an email to the Marianas Variety.
There were certain rules governing the selection of nominees and a certain way on how they were selected.
The nominees were selected base on the statistics but most importantly on how they have performed during the entire regular season of the league.
It is not based solely on how much they have scored, or even as the leading scorer on their team but instead, as a whole. Among the criteria that were present during the selection of nominees some which were: free throw shots, two point shots, three point shots, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, steals, assists, and blocks.
A rule that governs the section of an MVP is: Coaches are to select two players out of all the nominees. However, a coach may not select their own player. Coaches can submit their nominees to James Lee via email.
The deadline to submit nominees is tomorrow March 8th, 2011. The final decision will be decided by the committees of this league. Their decision will be base on the Top 3 Nominees chosen by the coaches.
The Regular Season MVP will then be announced and awarding will be on the second game of the Finals, which is on March 14th, Monday.
The 2011 Docomo/UBA Men’s Basketball League Regular Season MVP Nominees include: the Rollers’ Manny Matagolai’ who garnered 210 points overall, Jhun Estolas from Mobil who nailed 124 Point over all, Konflikt’s Elmer Esdrelon who collared 122 points overall, Satbahi’s Luis Abuel who fended off 112 points overall, and the Hoopaholics’ Jawn Joyner who bagged 105 points overall.
Manny Matagolai is the Team Captain for the Rollers. He is also the youngest player amongst all the other MVP nominees while leading the in overall score for the regular season and the 3 pointer shots. Jhun Estolas is the Team Captain for Mobil and is also leading in the free throws category.
Elmer Esdrelon is the Team Captain for IT&E Konflikt and is leading in the steals category. Luis Abuel is the Team Captain for Satbahi and is leading in the assist category. And last but not least, Jawn Joyner is the leading player in the overall rebounds and block shots categories.
