5th Annual Wahoo in the Marianas set for June 1

(TTT) — Youth fishing nonprofit organization Tasi To Table announces that its student member-led fishing derby, the 5th Annual Wahoo in the Marianas, is set for June 1, 2024, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Smiling Cove Marina.

Registration will take place on May 31, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Smiling Cove Marina. Registration fees for each participating vessel include $200 for each vessel, consisting of one  captain and two anglers, with $30 for each additional angler.

This derby, which was originally scheduled for March 23, 2024, had to be postponed due to high winds and rough waters forecasted during that weekend. Rescheduling the derby was a challenge for TTT, given that April and May this year are both eventful months.

“TTT’s officers met recently to schedule and agree on a new date for the Wahoo in the Marianas. It was a difficult decision to push it to June, but we had to since April and May are going to be a busy couple of months for TTT and other community organizations as well,” said TTT President Gene Weaver.

“During these two months we’re looking at a fishing derby from another organization; walkathon; marathon; golf tournament; fiesta; and upcoming high school proms and graduations, which will affect how many student volunteers we will have during the derby. TTT’s also gearing up for our first-ever veterans-focused fishing derby in May. Because of all these factors, we decided to hold the derby in June,” Weaver said.

Tasi To Table thanks everyone for their patience and understanding. Follow Tasi To Table @tasitotable on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates.

The Wahoo in the Marianas is an annual fishing derby held for TTT’s students, by TTT’s students. For this derby, solicitations, marketing, and event planning are managed by TTT’s student members, and money raised through the derby goes directly towards TTT’s student program.
