Ahn Yong wins 2nd Fiesta tourney

Settling for second place last year, the newly crowned champs went undefeated before losing to Fan Chew in game one of the finals round.

Team Ahn Yong fell, 2-0 but recovered in the last four minutes of their second game. Dae Won Jeon scored their first goal, Jung Ho Kim scored another, and Chris Smith snuck past goalie Greg Borja to deliver a five-minute overtime.

Two goals from Smith and two from Fan Chew led to another deadlock however, leading both teams to a shootout.

Dae Won’s younger brother, Dae Min and Sung Ho Kang executed two goals to clinch the title. Their goalie, Henry Yang, rejected both attempts from Arkie Reusora and Jack Thoensaket to shut down Fan Chew.

Also joining Ahn Yong Ha Seh Yo was Won Ho Jin.

The Fan Chews included John Villagomez, Snider Lanzo, Dave Young, and Nong Detdon.

The champions went home with a $500 cash prize while the first runner-ups won $300.

Team Fan Chew played four straight games prior to their second finals match. Team Ahn Yong however, crushed Just 4 Fun, Hyatt Beach, and Noonan to gain a twice-to-beat advantage.

The Fiesta tournament included 10 teams this year — an increase by two compared to 2010.
