All set for Little League district, regional tournaments

Little League District Administrator James Ada announced last Saturday that the 2009 12th Annual District majors and juniors division tournament will be held on Saipan on June 5, 6 and 7.

Rota, Tinian and defending champion, Saipan will be competing in this level to advance to the Regional tournament, Ada said.

The Regional tournaments for the juniors, seniors and big divisions will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from June 23 to 28.

Indonesia will be hosting the Little League Regional tournament for the first time.

In juniors division, the CNMI, Ada said will be competing with Guam, Philippines and Indonesia.

The Philippines won last year’s regional championship in juniors and senior division, while the CNMI won the Big League championship.

Ada said that since Tinian and Rota do not have seniors and big divisions, Saipan is automatically advancing to the Regional tournament.

The winning team in the majors division in district tournament on Saipan will go to Taipei, Taiwan for the regional tournament that will be held from July 5 to 12.

Besides CNMI, Ada said the other teams competing in the Pacific pool are Guam, New Zealand and Australia which will make its second participation.  In the Asia pool, the competing teams include host China-Taipei, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Philippines, Korea and India.
