Fred Pelisamen and Pando Muleta tossed in back-to-back field goals for 32 and 22 points, respectively to crush the undermanned UPAA-Hoopaholics, 127-85 and advance to the 2011 United Filipino Organization-Budweiser Cup’s open division semifinals last Sunday.
The Hoopaholics controlled the first quarter on a 35-22 lead from Dave Sablan’s early game rush before collapsing in the second half.
The absence of center Kelvin Fitial, Mel Manibusan, Jerry Diaz, and John Sablan eased pressure off of team Andoks, who had a well-loaded bench.
Pelisamen mustered a layup seconds before the second period and left the first half with double digit scores. Muleta kicked off with five points on a jumper and three-pointer and added eight to outrun the Hoops, 35-13.
Leading scorer Dave Sablan was the Hoophalics’ main driving force in the offense but he alone couldn’t get the ball past Tim Wesley or Mike Olaitiman.
Team Andoks closed the third period on a 25-point lead, landing three field goals behind the three-point line from Pelisamen and Muleta.
They survived the regular season in seventh place to enter the quarterfinals and upset the Hoops, who had an impressive six win-two loss record.
Sablan missed several 3’s and double dribbled to hand team Andoks turnovers. Lee and Marlon Cabrera fouled out to leave the Hoops with no substitutes in the final quarter.
Cavite’s Mike Umali, Peter Camacho, and JR Montano finished with 15 points apiece and Joy Dayrit scored 14. Tim Wesley squeezed in eight and Olaitiman earned six.

Cavite-Andoks 127 – F. Pelisamen 32, P. Muleta 22, M. Umali 15, P. Camacho 15, J. Montano 15, J. Dayrit 14, T. Wesley 8, M. Olaitiman 6

Mobil drops Noni, 110-105
Right next to the Hoops, third seeded Cabalen-Noni was also kicked out from the playoffs after losing to Bayani-Mobil, 110-105 in a second game.
Jun Estolas posted 25 of his 40 points in the final quarter to single-handedly lift Mobil to the semis.
Team Noni came close to drawing a bye from this week’s games but fell against undefeated Namfrel-Proa last Thursday.
A fast break basket from Angelo Fernando and Pete Lizama’s layup gave Mobil a 19-16 lead in the first period.
With no room to breathe in the first half, Noni fired back on a strong third quarter from Wowie Abuel’s three-pointer and a 14-point shooting spree from Kae Bernardo.
Bernardo led the scoreboard with 41 points, right above Estolas and Gyles Ruluked’s 24 points.
Estolas’ late-game surge however, vaporized Mobil’s four-point deficit despite Jorge De Guzman’s ejection. Ron Gamboa rallied with 15 points while Pete Lizama had 12.
Bart Demapan and Lerio Pagarao shot Noni’s final baskets on free throws.
Team Mobil will proceed to the semis with teams Proa and Andoks.
