With a 62-44 win over New Caledonia, the Australian cagers exclamated the Oceania tournament which Saipan hosted for the first time.
Hill prevailed on both sides of the court with a total of 10 rebounds and helped clamp down on defense affecting five turn overs for Australia.
With a couple of steals by Sean Mullan and Kurtis Philipps Australia’s wall of defense attributed to Wilcher’s 14 points including two three-pointers and Warbout’s 11 points plus the successful one of his two three-point attempts.
Reece Maxwell who also handed Australia five turn overs blasted from behind the arc to finish with nine points.
Philipps added seven points, Hill, six and both Bradley Simpson and Thomas Daly, five points.
Australia’s defense limited Emmanuel Souria-Ouamba’s point to five and Rodrigue Tetainanuarii who took over the scoring task completed only eight points.
Guam 70, New Zealand 55
In the battle for Bronze, Andrew Borja and Joe Blas stunned New Zealand with their speed leading Guam to 70-55 victory.
Borja basketed his two three-pointers and completed most fast breaks to finish with 16 points.
Blas who turned the court around with six turn overs, three steals and three rebounds also went ballistic scoring 15 points.
William Stinnett who also hit one of his five three-point shots helped build the defense affecting five turn overs. He scored 13 points.
Vince Estelle dominated the center point of both courts taking a total of 17 rebounds. He also bombarded New Zealand with 12 points.
Seve Susuico added eight points.
Australia 68, New Zealand 45 (women)
In women’s division, Rebecca Cole and Caitlin Rowe made the most out of their height and rampaged with 18 and 16 points respectively leading Australia beat New Zealand, 68-45.
Rowe had a total of 11 rebounds and Cole nine helping Australia stretch the lead right in the first half of the game.
Rowe also completed eight of her 16 penalty shots.
Hope Terdich picked most fouls and basketed five of her eight free throws to score a total of 11 points.
Samantha Creed who also took five rebounds added six points, and Rebecca Campigli, five points.
Guam 61, New Caledonia 59
The game between Guam and New Caledonia went tight from the first quarter all the way to the last minute.
Guam’s defense however pushed New Caledonia cagebells to the edge and outscored them with for a two-point gap to win the bronze.
Derin Santos led the scoring hands as she finished with 13 points including her four three-pointers. She also took eight rebounds and drove in five turn overs.
Brianna Benito who prevailed in the center of each goals with 12 rebounds added 10 points, and Ritalynn Anderson who basketed five of her 11 penalty shots also scored 10 points.
