BANMI Masters Basketball League reset, to open with 2 divisions

Mesa added that once they proceed with their opening games, the BANMI Masters caging will hold two divisions that will run simultaneously.

The Masters caging league, Mesa mentioned, will open on November 25, Tuesday, as some registered teams and their respective players have not yet paid their dues prior to the original date of launching of the league.

Mesa said he does not want to move on with the league with unsettled fees in order to avoid problems on claiming for, or calling the participating teams and cagers at the end of the season for their payment.

BANMI Masters basketball requires $500 entrance fee for each team and $25 membership fee from each player.

Mesa emphasized that the entry fee is different from the individual membership fee, explaining the latter is intended for the basketball clinic that he will conduct days prior to the league’s opening date.

Mesa pointed out the clinic will be held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium tentatively this coming Saturday and Sunday, November 15-16.

The sports coordinator also said he might even hold the basketball clinic on next weekend, depending on the number of player-participants who will sign up for the clinic, which will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mesa stated that aside from the change of the opening date of the Masters caging, BANMI will have to pursue two separate leagues – 35-under and 40-under divisions, which will have game schedules alongside each other.

There will be five teams for each division, Mesa added.

This development has turned up after the last time meeting with the league participating teams and some concerned individuals who have voiced out their suggestions to the organizing committee.

Despite the creation of separate leagues, Mesa said he will still try to form one national team out of the two leagues to be sent to the 2009 World Masters Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Sports coordinator Arnold Mesa can be reached at 878-8679.
