Bolleyballer-Z wins Roccball title

Teams Quest and Border Control played game number 45 of Roccball’s 10-team round robin league schedule of games on Friday, April 5. It was the last regular game of the year.

THE 41st Annual Roccball league of games ended at Marianas High School on Friday April 5, 2024.

There were 10 teams registered to play in this year’s round robin schedule. In the final five games of play, the Aces upset team Topshakaz 37 to 35, Baddie-Z defeated Chagii Fahn 53 to 38, the Bolleyballer-Z had to go into overtime set to beat Nesian Power by scoring a goal, Spicey Locals outhustled the Rizzlers 46 to 23, and in the last regular game of the year, Quest scored a win over Border Control 49 to 25.

In the ninth and final round of games, the Roccball players collectively scored 68 two point serves, 7 two point backcourt plays, and 13 three point goals in addition to their court points. The team that scored the most aces was the Spicey Locals with 14 two point serves. Nesian Power scored the most three point plays with four goals in a game.

The “Heavy Hitter” of Round Nine was Alex Kim of Spicey Locals. Alex scored 7 two point aces in the game against the Rizzlers. And Jerome Manzon of Baddie-Z, the leading three point player of the league, scored another two goals in the game against Chagii Fahn.

The Bolleyballer-Z won first place with an 8-1 record. Topshakaz came in second place with a 6-3 record, Spicey Locals came in third with a 6-3 record and Nesian Power came in fourth place with a 5-4 record. Topshakaz came in second place with the same win loss record as the Spicey Locals because Topshakaz defeated the Spicey Locals during the regular season of games.   

There was a three-way tie for fourth place with Nesian Power, Team Quest and the Aces. But Nesian Power defeated each of those teams during the regular season of games.

The semi-final games scheduled for the week of April 8 to 12 will start on Tuesday: Topshakaz and Spicey locals play on Tuesday, April 9 and the Bolleyballer-Z will play against the Nesaian Power team on Wednesday, April 10. The semi-final games will be two set games of 25 points per set. 

The 2024 Roccball championship game will be a four-set game of 25 points per game and divided into two days of competition at 25 points per set. The teams will play two sets on Thursday, April 11 and two more sets on Friday, April 12.
