Boys volleyball, girls basketball tourneys this week

The Boys Varsity Volleyball League will start first, with games starting tomorrow, November 16 at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Playing the first set of games at 3 p.m. are Kagman High School versus the MHS Awesome Fins and Saipan Southern High School versus the MHS QTs.

The second round, which will start 10 minutes later, will be held between MHS-KFC and second-seeded Saipan International School.

Grace Christian Academy, which ended the regular season undefeated, will face the winners between SSHS and the QTs.

Games will be played in a best-of-three format and a third set will not be necessary if a team wins the first two sets.

Matches continue on Thursday, November 17.

GCA bagged the number one seed this year after winning 12 games in a row. The Geckos fell to them twice and ended with a  10-2 record.

Meanwhile, the dominant MHS Dolphins claimed the first seed in the Girls Varsity Basketball League.

Games start on Friday at the MHS Gymnasium, with third-seeded Tinian High School playing SIS at 1 p.m.

KHS will face SSHS at 2:45 p.m. with MHS playing the winner between THS and SIS.

In the final game at 5:45 p.m., a knock out match will be held between the losers of games one and two.

Day two of the tournament starts 8 a.m. at the Northern Marianas College Gymnasium. The finals are slated for 1:30 p.m.

Both MISO’s volleyball and basketball tournaments will be played in a double elimination format.
