Braves edge Sandlot, 9-8

THE Braves stole their way to victory against the Sandlot by scoring in the seventh and final inning to notch their third win in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Wednesday.

The Sandlot started with the advantage as the Braves’ pitcher, Keoni Serrano, struggled to find his groove from the mound, allowing two runs to slip by off errors while the Sandlot’s Luis Iguel contributed a run and earned an RBI single along the way before three outs were collected.

The Braves also failed to find their footing during their turn at bat in the bottom half of the first inning,

The Sandlot’s lead grew further as Mike Iguel, Luis Iguel and Jobe Reyes capitalized off the Braves’ defensive errors, recording an RBI each and adding three more runs in the top of the second inning.

The Braves managed to break the silence in the bottom half with two runs stolen to reduce the gap, 2-6.

The Braves then silenced the Sandlot in the third with two runners left on base. In the bottom half, the Sandlot fell into a defensive drought and allowed three runs to slip by off errors while the Braves’ Josenio Alvarez and Andrew Camacho added two more runs for an RBI each to snatch the lead, 7-6.

The battle for control continued throughout the night with both teams scoring one run in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, the Sandlot scored a run while holding down the Braves to put the game at a deadlock, 8-8.

The Braves’ relief pitcher Aaron Camacho, for his part, stuck out three consecutive Sandlot batters in the top of the seventh.

 In the bottom half, the Sandlot tried to stand their ground with two outs already in the bag. But an ill-timed infield error cost them the game as it gave the Braves’ Achilles Evangelista the opportunity to steal his way home for the game-winning run, 9-8.
