THE Braves forced the Bears back into hibernation, 8-5, in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Wednesday.

Neither team scored in the first inning, but the Braves managed to change the pace of the game in the top of the second inning as the bases quickly loaded. The Bears’ pitcher, JJ Lizama, struggled to find the strike zone and walked the first four batters — one walking home for a scored run. Three more runs slipped by before the Bears managed to stop the bleeding.

Down 0-4, the Bears allowed the Braves only two more runs in the next two innings. But the Bears’ offense remained stale as they continued down the silent path after four complete innings.

In the top of the fifth, the Bears’ Dennis Cabrera and JJ Lizama earned an RBI each while Verlance Secharmindal added another by stealing home to cut the lead, 3-6.

But the Braves responded with two runs in the top of the sixth to retain the comfortable lead.

After silencing the Braves in the next inning, the Bears made one final attempt to turn the tables. With two runs scored and only one out made, they appeared to be on the verge of a rally. However, the Bears notched the needed outs, leaving two runners on base, to secure victory, 8-5.

The Braves, who are aiming for a spot in the playoffs, now hold a win-loss record of 6-3.
