KAGMAN Elementary School and Brilliant Star School kicked off the NMA-PSS All-School Cross Country Series for SY25-26 with strong performances in the elementary division, finishing at the top of their respective categories last Saturday morning at Airport Field.
In the boys division, Kagman took first place with 36 points, followed by Brilliant Star with 46, Agape Christian School with 60, Grace Christian Academy with 84, Mount Carmel School and Oleai Elementary with 90 each, San Vicente Elementary with 112, Saipan Community School with 129, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary with 167, and Saipan International with 197.
In cross country, the goal is for your team to have the lowest score possible. The score is calculated by adding up the finishing positions of a set number of scoring runners from each team. Each runner earns points equal to their finishing place:
1st place – 1 point
2nd place – 2 points
3rd place – 3 points, and so on.
Brilliant Star’s Declan Spaeth won the individual boys race with a time of 7:10. Agape’s Johnny Shen placed second in 7:24, followed by teammate David Yang in 7:29. Rounding out the top 10 were Kagman’s Brayden Brennfleck (7:32) and Jace Brennfleck (8:09), San Vicente’s Anthony Acosta (8:13), Mount Carmel’s Thomas Flores (8:16), Oleai’s Roque Cruz (8:27), Grace Christian’s Alex Juho (8:27), and Oleai’s Patrick Pangelinan (8:32).
In the girls division, Brilliant Star clinched the top spot with 30 points, while Saipan International finished second with 34 and William S. Reyes Elementary third with 60. They were followed by Saipan Community (80), Mount Carmel (97), Koblerville (103), Oleai (104), and San Vicente (123).
Brilliant Star’s Honey Thomsen led the girls race, finishing in 7:49. Saipan Community’s Iris Qin followed at 8:07, and William S. Reyes’ Riem Hernandez was third in 8:28. Completing the top 10 were Saipan International’s Miriam Flores (8:29) and Olivia Walsh (8:44), William S. Reyes’ Makenna Pangelinan (8:56) and Jaymie Dimasacat (9:27), Brilliant Star’s Simone Smith (9:08) and Lana Frederick (9:23), and Mount Carmel’s Chloe Mostales (9:08).
