The Fanians were playing defense on the serve during the final moments of the game and were restricted to two hits.
The Brothers on the other hand, had the first five hit advantage and set up their big hitter, Freddy Pelisamen, for a backcourt two point kee.
Pelisamen delivered on the kee and his backcourt kill accentuated the Brothers victory by glancing off a Fanian player for a goal.
He was the heavy hitter of game with two aces and nine kees and a goal for 25 points.
Larry Sharry was the Fanians’ heavy hitter with nine kees and one goal for 21 points.
The Brothers slammed the Fanians in the first set 25 to 2 and were leading in game points 51 to 26 at the end of the second set. The Fanians came back in the third set and edged out the Brothers 27 to 26.
The Brothers still held a comfortable 24 point lead in the game going into the fourth set.
The Brothers needed to win set four by a margin to wrap up game one, while the Fanians were trailing 24 points going into the fourth set and needed to either win set four by a margin of 25 points or win the fourth set to stop the Brothers from juicing out.
Winning a set by a 25 point margin in a set in an offensive and defensive, the multiple point scoring game between two high caliber teams such as the Ghasias Brothers and the Fanians, wasn’t likely to happen.
The Fanians played their best set of the night and won the fourth set 32 to 15 with a 17 point margin win. But, even in their best set, their game score wasn’t enough to end the game.
And, even though the Brothers had the most game points scored after four sets, they weren’t able to win the game in a losing set.
The Fanians’ fourth set win forced the game into overtime. Because the
Brothers had the most game points scored after four sets of play, they only needed to win one overtime set. The Fanians needed to win two overtime sets to win the game: An overtime set is 10 points or a goal which ever comes first.
The Fanians won the first overtime set 10 to 6 and brought the game to a do-or-die situation of the last set of the first championship game. In the second set, the Brothers had the Fanians down 10 to 7 but were not able to hold onto and convert the serve into a winning point for several more plays.
The Fanians controlled the serve and tied the score 10 to 10 in the last set. But, the Fanians lost control of the game on a bad serve. And, at game point and the serve, the Brothers took full advantage of the five hit rule. .
