Cardinals shortstop Nokki Saralu secures a grounder and gathers to throw to first base for the out during a Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League game at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
THE Cardinals bagged their first win in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League by powering past the Natives in five innings, 19-4, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Wednesday.
The Cardinals had an explosive start as nearly all its batters connected in the top of the opening inning.
After a single by Tony Tenorio, he was quickly brought in by Nokki Saralu, who earned an RBI single. Three more runs followed with Nathan Camacho and Jerald Cabrera also earning RBIs before the Natives recorded their first out. The bleeding continued, however, as four more runs were added to give the Cardinals a commanding lead, 8-0.
The Natives failed to get out of the gutter and were allowed one hit only. The Cardinals’ lead continued to grow as they added six runs in the top of the second. Five of the runs came off errors while one was an earned run as the Cardinals widened their lead, 14-0.
No additional runs were allowed by the Natives in the next two innings, but the Cardinals eventually resumed their dominance with five more runs mainly scored off errors to extend the deficit, 19-0.
The Natives finally broke the silence in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs, but these were not enough to escape the 10-run rule as the Cardinals bagged the three outs needed to end the ball game early, 19-4.
