Carey finished the course in 9 hours, 56 minutes, and 38 seconds, saying that “she was happy with the results,” even after training for just one month.
The triathlon competition, which consisted of swimming, biking, and running, took place within Japan’s Tottori Prefecture. Carey finished 45:49 in the 3 kilometer swim event, 4:59:09 in the 145 kilometer bike event, and finally 4:11:40 in the running event.
A total of 824 people and 48 teams participated in the Kaike tournament. Out of the 824 participants, 43 of them were female athletes, which included Mieko Carey. 4,200 people volunteered to organize the massive two-day adventure race.
Carey finished 43rd overall, where New Zealand’s Youko Hori dominated the women’s division while Yoji Fujiwara led first in the men’s division.
Along with Mieko Carey was Joshua A. Manglona from Tinian, who finished 326th place overall with 12 hours, 8 minutes, and 42 seconds.
Carey noted that she was happy to finish the race and that it was a challenge to her. She is currently resting from the competition and will soon be preparing for the upcoming Xterra event.
