Carey said she and her husband Kevin will be participating in another big triathlon in Japan on Aug. 29.
The Marunuma Tournament is also an off-road version of a triathlon that gives challenge to individual participant and chance to unify with the nature.
Since its birth on Maui Island in Hawaii in 1996, triathlon has spread, with a 100 races taking place in 17 countries worldwide.
XTERRA Japan is a Global Sports Alliance partner that works closely with organizations in promoting environmental awareness through the Ecoflag Movement.
Carey’s performance in Kaike Triathlon went far better than she planned. She set a goal of finishing the entire race in 11 hours but despite the bad weather that also seemed to have gotten a good taste of last year’s event, the Saipan triathlete crossed the finish line in nine hours and 47 minutes.
Of the 821 participants, Carey was among the 340 triathletes who finished the race before the race was cancelled after the bad weather got worse.
Carey completed the three-km swim course in 44 minutes ahead of hundreds of other participants. She trekked the 1.5-km bike course, half of which was a rocky uphill trail under the threatening weather in fours hours and 59 minutes. Then, she dealt with the 42.195 kilometer run course in four hours and 3 minutes.
