Kimura, Lopez are Student Athletes of the Month
Meanwhile, Kensuke Kimura and junior netter Mikayla Lopez clinched the Male and Female Student Athletes of the Month titles.
Kimura represented the CNMI in the FINA World Cup Olympic qualifying meet in Tokyo, Japan and swam in the 100-meter individual medley and 50-m freestyle events.
Kimura, according to the Northern Marianas Islands Swimming Federation, swam his personal best times in both races. He joined a local time trial meet at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in November 19 and swam his best time in the 100-m freestyle, 50-m backstroke, and 50-m butterfly events.
Within eight years, Kimura is among the CNMI’s only four swimmers to beat the one minute mark in the 100-m freestyle. The other three were Dean Palacios, Rezne Wong, and Kai Staal.
Lopez claimed the girls 15-and-under doubles title with Carol Lee in the 3rd Annual Tan Holdings Tennis Classic at American Memorial Park.
The duo outran Negahr Rastguiy and Tammy Ackerman and the pair of Isabel Heras and Julia Ishikawa in a round robin series.
Lopez also won the girls 15U singles finals against Rastguiy, 6-0, 6-2.
