In a see saw battle between the two rival teams, Palau and Guam showed great performances from their players who displayed a great basketball on stage with a jam-packed crowd at the national gym.
And as the scuffle resumes with 2 minutes left on the game clock and Guam leading by eight points, the Palau women’s created a run courtesy of Stephanie Calvo’s jaw dropping assits, Sesengel Ketebengang’s three point bombs, and Carissa Trolii’s jumpers. Cutting the lead of Guam women’s into a point with Trolii’s jumper on the wings, Guam point guard, pushed the ball upfront and saw Castro on the wings wide open. She then pulled and drained a three point to silence the hundreds of people routing for team Palau with 26 seconds left on the game clock.
On the next possession with 6 ticks left with the visiting Guam’s player was awarded two free throws. After missing both shot, Palau grabbed the rebound for an outlet pass to swingman Stephanie who dribbled and lobbed a three point attempt with 3 ticks at midcourt to no avail as it rattled and fell on the floor giving Guam a win with a final tally of 51 – 49.
Kathryn Castro and Brianna Benito led the scoring charge for team Guam when they put 19 and 15, respectively. On the losing side, Jamie Ngirausui and Sesengel Ketebengang scored 10 and 14 for team Palau.
