He bogeyed the first hole and doubled the second. But the former club champion immediately bounced back, scoring birdies at holes # 3, 5, 12 and 14.
Cataluna also registered the “shot of the day,” hitting a fairway bunker second shot from 230 yards that landed on the Par 5 hole # 14 green. He failed to eagle the hole.
With the victory, Cataluna joins early qualifiers Eli Buenaventura and Ronnie Santos at the club championship podium. Buenaventura shot 1-over par 73 while Santos came home with 2-over par 74 to finish second and third respectively.
In the Par 3 contest, Ruben Avendano was the winningest, hauling holes # 5 and 7. Buenaventura took hole # 3 while Cataluna won hole # 15
