Ms. Becky Covarrubias, tournament coordinator from CGC, recently asked the assistance of the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association to help seek individuals who wish to volunteer as referees for the youth volleyball games that will be held on September 20 and 21 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
“I am need[ing] refs for the upcoming CGC/SAPTember volleyball tournament,” Covarrubias said in an e-mail to NMIVA, adding that “if anyone volunteers as a ref [he] would get a t-shirt and an invitation to an appreciation banquet in October.”
NMIVA president, Laurie Peterka responded to Covarrubias’ request encouraging the association’s membership.
She said, “We all know that the future of volleyball rests with youth development. This means taking the time to teach the game and help with coaching, ref’ing and sponsoring the sport in the CNMI.”
She added that NMIVA needs to mobilize its people to help the CGC/Saptember Youth Volleyball games by volunteering as referees.
“I think this is easily accomplished if we can get the schedule split up between several people so that no one feels like their own schedules are unduly impacted,” Peterka said.
The youth volleyball tourney will hold four divisions: boys 18-under, girls 18-under, boys 14-under, and girls 14-under.
CGC is still open for teams that wish to participate in the event.
Deadline of registration is until September 12.
