Running through a course of 500 meter swim then 15 kilometer bike and 3 kilometer run for the Juniors Division and a 1,000 meter swim, 20 kilometer bike and 5 kilometer run for the Seniors Division, young Telbiil August, from the beautiful waterfall state of Ngardmau, crossed the tape at 59 minutes and 16 seconds to win first place in the Juniors male category followed by fellow teammate Olai Kumangai, who is also an awardee of a bronze medal at Belau Games, settled for second spot with a time of 1:06.55.
Sharing the award winning run on a different category, Maria Gibbons grabbed number one when she was able to finish the course at an hour and five minutes while being trailed by Marica Otto who clocked in at 1:21.16 to receive second runner – up. Gayle Bornovski’s 1:41.41 earned her third runner-up.Other winners finished the event saw (Open Male) – Joel Graham (1st place), Liam Bornovski (2nd place), Yuri Ito (3rd place); (Open Female) – Meagan McCrea (1st place), Tuera Williams (2nd place); (Masters Male) – Scott Walsh (1st place), Juan Guatno (2nd place), Tiger Gilham (3rdplace); (Masters Female) – Rachel Dimitri (1st place) and Judy Otto (2nd place).With the success of the event, Tino Faatuuala President of the Belau Triathlon Federation, expressed that the association will be organizing another similar events on the next coming months in anticipation of the much bigger occasion this year dubbed as the Rainbow Triathlon scheduled at the end of the year.For more information on triathlon events call Tino at 775-8466 or Daryl at 775-5863 or e-mail [email protected].
