The association is set to have a board members’ meeting at the Gilbert Ada Gym conference room at 6 p.m., today, and team managers meeting on Thursday to make the schedules for slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball that they plan to hold separately.
Manny Tenorio also said that from only six teams that participated last year, there will be more teams this year signing up for the fast-pitch league.
Some of the softball teams playing in fast-pitch leagues are D9ers, Tanapag, Islanders, Chelus and San Vicente.
The D9ers remains the undefeated champion.
The CNMI Softball Association continuous with its annual slow-pitch league. And this year, it will be more exciting and challenging because for the first time, the league’s winning team will represent Saipan in the 5th Marianas Cup that will be held in Rota.
Before, the slow-pitch softball on Saipan usually ran in double elimination round of a few teams. And the team that won the championship did not go Marianas Cup. It was the team not necessarily from the island-wide tournament that could play in Marianas Cup.
Tenorio said the champion in the slow-pitch usually held in Miguel “Tan-Ge” Basa Pangelinan Softball Field, will compete with teams from Tinian, Rota and Guam.
The No Ka Oi team from Saipan won the Marianas Cup last year.
The league is open to any interested group and individual 18 years old and up. Interested team managers and coaches are invited to attend the meeting on Thursday.
