But this new feature, according to Northern Marianas Housing Corporation corporate director Joshua Sasamoto won’t be adding up to the attraction in 2008 Oceania Under 18 and Open Area Championship and 2008 Grand Prix Series on June 21 to 28.
In an interview yesterday, Sasamoto said the construction of the bleacher will not be finished until Sept. 11.
The project which started last year, aims to improve NMI’s main sports facility costs $156,000 and funded through grant from US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Sasamoto clarified that putting up bleacher along track and field facility is not a part of the Oceania events preparation.
He said is not in anyway involved in the Oceania and did not even know about world-class event coming up when they started the project last year.
So if the covered bleacher the seats of which could accommodate 150 people including ADA (for disabled) compliance seats, Sasamoto said “there’s nothing we can do about it.”
The covered bleacher is supposed to be the first fully-covered concrete permanent seating bleacher with ADA accessibility, Sasamoto said, it’s a good thing Saipan is having such facility soon.
Of course in the next big sports events, that bleacher is going be there, he said.
