The community is urged to stop the destruction of trails and motorized use of them in protected areas. We publicize that riding on wet trails after heavy rains creates great erosion and therefore is discouraged and encourage leaving some bike paths as natural as possible to facilitate skill building.
The NMITF also asks that written rules that state cyclist share the same rules of road as vehicles remain, and try to rewrite many of them so that they are easier understood and enforced.
Community members must encourage cyclists riding against traffic to obey the rules of the road and ride with it to be consistent and avoid accidents.
Develop a letter to the CNMI government in support of cycle safety and funding for road safety initiatives.
Also develop pamphlets and flyers that promote cycle safety to be distributed by Motor Vehicle Departments to all new drivers; taxi, bus, car rental, and truck companies; Shell stations; doctor offices; and riders to hand out.
Along with the pamphlets the NMITF committee members are looking in to developing a radio cycle safety script for the radio along with the idea of Purchase for resale several informative and eye catching bumper stickers that promote cycle safety.
And last but not least, to ask the Department of Public safety for help in ensuring the safety of our cyclists as these competitions are also a great way to attract tourists to the beautiful island of Saipan.
