With new striking red jersey, Vic Mallari and Sonny Ebuen led the Destroyers to clinch the fifth slot and now poised to even the season with the Diamond Fixers before the playoff starts in the first week of November.
Mallari and Ebuen combined 41 points as they carried the team together for their 88-59 victory over Club Wonderful on Friday last week. That was the same feat Mallari and George De Guzman made when they defeated Tropical Laundry, 80-77 on Oct. 16.
During last Monday’s game against Chinatown, the Destroyers had George Villasan and Danny Dayrit backing up Ebuen to keep the gap wide open all the way to the ball game for their 86-54 victory.
Villasan rampaged with 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, the Destroyers kept control of the offense with each of those who saw actions contributing with their two-pointers. Adonis Macoto scored six points while De Guzman and Villasan combined their feats for eight points to give the Destroyers a three-point lead.
Dayrit fired seven of his 11 points in the third quarter.
Nelson Alfonso fired a three-point shot as he chipped in seven points in the third and finished with a total of nine points.
Marvin Marchedesh also blasted from behind the arc to help the Destroyers stretch the lead midway to the final period.
Mallari who went dormant in the first half and third quarter sizzled with nine points as the Destroyers nailed Chinatown to 54 points in the final quarter and secured their ninth win.
E&E 63, Westco 56
Dennis Morales led the rally as he, Nap Dizon and Alex Ocampo put their four markers together, and Mark Francisco blasted from outside the rainbow line to wipe out Westco’s three-point lead in the second quarter.
Ocampo fired a three-pointer and Morales scored six more points to help E&E zoom past Westco in the third period.
E&E mounted a smothering defense in the fourth as Ocampo completed fast breaks firing three consecutive two-pointers to finish with 15 points in the game.
