Eagle Rays fly past Ngatpang, 21-10

IT only took five innings for the Eagles Rays to defeat Ngatpang, 21-10, in the open division of the 2025 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League at the Dandan softball field on Sunday.

At first, Ngatpang seemed to be swinging in the right direction as they picked up two runs, led by Derek Cutting’s sacrifice fly RBI, in the top of the opening inning while Eagle Rays’ Mike Techur’s hit a solo run.

Ngatpang stretched its 2-1 lead by adding five more runs, courtesy of Ton Techur and Houston Martin, each contributing an RBI single.

However, in the bottom half of the second inning, the Eagle Rays took flight.

The bases quickly filled as Eagle Rays’ Derek Palacios and Manny Cabrera led off the lineup with a single and double, respectively, while Lefty Shiro was walked. Ton Pangelinan then capitalized with a grand slam, answering with four runs and no outs on the board. Four more runs followed, highlighted by Mike Techur’s 3-run homer, giving them a 10-7 lead.

For the next two innings, Ngatpang was allowed only one hit.

The Eagle Rays, for their part, went on an offensive rampage. Cabrera led off the bottom of the third inning with a triple and was later brought in by Sidney Kani for an RBI, followed by a double from Jaime Reyes. Mike Tomokane and Mike Techur then connected for a two-run and solo home run, respectively. In the fourth, Glenn Dikito joined the highlight reel with a three-run homer to push the lead to double digits at 21-7.

With the 10-run mercy rule in effect, Ngatpang needed to score but managed to squeeze in only three runs before falling to the Eagle Rays, 21-10.
