Brandon Chargualaf and Dae Min Jeon once again dominated the court with their spikes, putting the Eagles five points ahead in the first set.
With Charlie Jo and Paul Samson on their side, the Stormz too, had a few heavy hitters on their side of the court. Jo faced Jeon at several occasions, with both players evenly striking kills. A few bad serves kept the Stormz behind, but they easily caught up after earning points from the Eagles’ out of bound attacks.
Despite losing 25-19 in the first set, the Stormz didn’t give up very easily. Both teams endured several deadlocks, but the Stormz eventually shot for a 23-19 lead. Having the court in their hands, the Stormz were shocked to see the Eagles snatch an easy five points, tying the game at 24-24. Following a failed pass from the Eagles, the Stormz brought their match to the third set, putting the Eagles’ undefeated streak at risk.
While Chargualaf was out, Angelo Salas was in to help keep the Eagles in the lead. A few missed serves gave the Stormz their first couple points. Samson played a solid defense for the Stormz, knocking back several of Jeon’s spikes. With the help of Colleen Kinsella and James Libut, the Eagles quickly soared to a 15-9 victory.
Prior to the Eagles’ victory in their varsity game, the Seventh Day Adventists also had their shot at defeating the Stormz during their junior varsity volleyball match yesterday.
SDA destroyed the Stormz in the first set, winning by 25-22. SDA’s offense staggered during the second set however, resulting in a 16-25 loss against the Stormz.
Tied at the third set by 14-14, the Seventh Day Adventists played steadier passes to keep the Stormz off-track. The game was soon over after a Stormz player passed the ball into the net.
Seventh Day Adventist is among the four schools scheduled to play COPSSA-sanctioned volleyball games today.
SDA will be playing against Saipan Community School while Saipan International School Team B will be heading against Whispering Palms School.
