According to Don Bukurrou, president of Ongiall Association, which organizes and officiates the league, most of the players were in involved in the 2009 Belau Games.
“The ECSL and West Coast Softball League (WCSL) support activities of the participating states,” Bukurrou said. “The involvement of the leagues’ players in Belau Games is a testament of the effort that Ongiall is forging – bringing people together to participate in activities that allow for establishment of friendships and healthy competition.”With the Belau Games completed, Bukurrou said, both of the leagues have rescheduled all of their games. Further, the ECSL has begun its second round of games.In last weekend ECSL games, Ngarchelong’s (Blue Sharks) Open and Masters division teams played against Ngchsar’s (Oldiais) teams.Both of Ngarchelong’s teams were victorious; however, both teams had to work hard to earn the runs. Despite losing their first games of the second round of ECSL, Ngchesar’s teams played extremely well.In related news, a conference tournament between both of the leagues is being planned.According to Bukurrou, the top two teams of each division of both leagues will compete for a conference trophy. Bukurrou further added that last year the WCSL dominated the conference games.Bukurrou said that the selection of which teams would play in the conference tournament is dependent on team ranking after the first round of games of each league.“After the first round, the top two teams of the open and masters divisions of both leagues will compete for a conference trophy and the right to be called the ultimate champions,” he said.According to Bukurrou, the ECSL teams that have earned a spot in the conference tournament are as follows: Ngchesar (ranked No.1) and Ngiwal (ranked No.2) – open division; and Ngaraard (ranked No. 1) and Ngchesar (ranked No. 2) – masters division.Bukurrou said that during the conference tournament, the best team of each division of each league would play against the second best teams.“The 1st ranked ECSL teams will be playing the 2nd ranked teams of WCSL and vice versa,” he said. “The conference tournament would determine which of teams is the best in the open division and the masters division of both ECSL and WCSL.Bukurrou said that the date of the conference tournament has not been determined yet; however, it will be announced after team managers and officials of both leagues meet.
