Sablan entered the tournament with determination as he played exceptionally well throughout the course. He ended the front nine with a gross of 44 and kept a steady swing as he transitioned to the back nine with a gross of 45. He garnered a gross total of 89, but his handicap of 20 greatly improved his odds as he ended the day with a net score of 69 to finish first.
Last month’s ace, Steve Balakrishna, dominated the front nine as he barely committed any errors. This placed him well ahead of the competition with a gross score of 36. Although the back nine proved to be the tougher portion of the course, Balakrishna maintained efficiency to keep his score above average at 43 for a total gross score of 79. With a handicap of 11, Balakrishna’s net score was 68.
But because Balakrishna is already an ace, Sablan was named this month’s titlist.
Taking third place was Ben Lizama who scored a gross of 45 on both ends of the course for a total of 90. A handicap of 19 gave him a net score of 71.
In the side events, Balakrishna pocketed holes #6 and #15 for the Closest to the Pin honors alongside Nick Sablan at hole #4 and Jun Eun Taeck at hole #11.
The Longest Drive Award went to Rene B. for hole #5 and Nick Sablan for hole #18.
Edward C. Sablan now joins the other Aces of 2020: Ed Manibusan (January), Jung Eun Teack (February), Nick Sablan (March), Juan “Pan” Guerrero (April), Das Krishnan (May), Larry Deleon Guerrero (June) and Steve Balakrishna (July).
The SGA September Ace of the Month Tournament will be held at LaoLao Golf Course on Nov. 8, 2020, Sunday. Tee time is at 9 a.m. with show time at 8:30 a.m.
