FIBA Oceania officer to hold basketball clinics in schools

Ryan Burns, FIBA Oceania Zone Development Officer will be conducting basketball clinics from Feb. 5 to 18 in public and private schools and various basketball league organizers on the island.

He will also work with local coaches and players in assisting the CNMI National Men’s and Women’s squads in preparation for the 2010 Micronesian Games.

Burns who first got involved with FIBA Oceania as an Australian Youth Ambassador in 2006 in the Solomon Islands, is looking forward to visit other FIBA federation members like BANMI during the 2009 FIBA Oceania Basketball Tournament.

In 2008 Burns was asked to coach the Federated States of Micronesia’s team and after completing the program, he moved back to the Solomon Islands to complete his volunteer program.

FIBA Oceania employed Burns as a fulltime development officer in 2009. He enjoys working with the Pacific Islands especially in the coaching department but his skills hold a range of ability from the grass roots of basketball to international competition that is beneficial to the Oceania federations.
