FREDDIE Cataluna bagged the Saipan Golf Association’s June Ace of the Month title with a net score of 74 on Sunday, June 23, at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course.
Cataluna emerged victorious in a scorecard playoff against Rick Kautz.
Cataluna maintained a decent stroke on the front nine with a gross of 39. He then improved his game on the back nine by one stroke with a gross of 38 for a gross total of 77. Sporting a handicap of three, Cataluna’s net score was 74.
Kautz, for his part, shot a gross of 41 on the front nine and 44 on the back nine for a gross total of 85. With a handicap of 11, his net score was 74.
In the scorecard playoff, however, Cataluna edged Kautz.
It was Nick Sablan who finished first, shooting 37 on the front nine and 40 on the back for a gross total of 77. Sporting a handicap of 6, his net score was 71.
However, Sablan has already won a previous ace tournament (March). The other aces of the year so far are Larry Deleon Guerrero (January), Alex Tudela (February), Das Krishnan (April), and Joe Sablan (May).
In the optional play, Cataluna led the closest to the pin challenge on holes #7, #11 and #15 while Kautz ruled hole #4.
For the Longest Drive, Ton Tomokane reigned on hole #3 while Jung Eun Teack owned hole #10.
