Team Rollers B triumphed in yesterday’s only 12-and-under division match, beating Rollers C 20-16 at Garapan Basketball Court. Rollers B’s Troy Cosino top scored with eight points while teammates Joshua Leyco and Kerr Abobo shot for six and four, respectively.
Team Complex swept Rollers C 61-39 in the 15U division’s first game, with Complex’s Nevin Salem piling 18 points and Jack Aranda earning 16. Aranda’s three-pointer in the first half jumpstarted his team to victory as Salem charged for possession. Shane DLGuerrero led Rollers C with 19 points – three of which, came from critical free throws.
Meanwhile, Rollers D edged Rollers B 38-28. Team Rollers D’s slightly faster players had the edge in the offense, while their opponents struggled in the rebound. Rollers D’s William Camacho cruised by his first six points, giving time for JP Iglesias to connect a three-pointer.
In the last game of the afternoon, the mighty G-Stars outran team Tanapag Falcons 53-24. The G-Stars started off with a 22-10 lead in the first half, which was carried on by Michael Mancao. Frankie Lieto’s three-pointers couldn’t do much for Tanapag, whose players were overwhelmed by Jacob Palacios, Karlo De Leon, and Ed Cudia. Mancao’s 19 points were more than enough put his team ahead, in addition to 13 from Palacios and six from Cudia. Using size to their advantage, the G-Stars controlled both offensive and defensive rebounds with help from Ankie Manalili.
Overall, the 15U division includes nine teams – Rollers A, B, C, D, E, Hopwood Junior High School, Complex, G-Stars, and Tanapag Falcons. The 12U category’s three teams consist of Rollers A, B, and C.
15U players will duke it out in a double elimination format. Those in the 12U group will play in round robin, with the leading two teams advancing to the finals.
Today’s set of games will be played at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. 12U’s Rollers B and Rollers A will play first at 9 a.m., followed by Rollers E and Rollers A from the 15U division. The RBC will try to complete half its tournament matches by today, according to Coach Joe Diaz.
