BOTH teams of Garapan Elementary School emerged victorious in the elementary school division of the NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League SY23-24 after defeating their respective opponents Monday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
GES earned their first win of the season by outplaying Koblerville Elementary School 2, 3-1.
It was a battle for control during which GES held a firm grip within the first minute. They eventually made their way deep within enemy territory where Jacob Borja found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
A back-and-forth battle for possession followed. But a quick shift in momentum caught GES off guard and allowed KoES 2’s Patrick J. to even the score at the 8th minute mark.
It did not take long for GES to retaliate as their continuous pressure eventually broke through KoES 2’s defense, allowing Andrey Ray to strike at the 13th minute mark and regain the upper hand, 2-1.
GES kept the fire burning throughout the second half of the match with Borja delivering his second goal at the 24th minute mark. KoES 2 were unable to score again and had to accept defeat, 1-3.
GES2 vs SVES2
Garapan Elementary School 2, for their part, bested San Vicente Elementary School 2, 5-3.
SVES 2 drew first blood after just five minutes of play, but GES 2 struck back with three goals courtesy of Turbulence Hiroichi, Taku Rosopes and Althea Debelen to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, SVES 2 regained the tempo with Izaiah Haro connecting two goals at the 12th and 17th minute marks to even the score.
GES 2’s Rosopes then delivered back-to-back goals to secure the win, 5-3.
WSR vs GTC
Also joining the winner’s circle was William S. Reyes Elementary School, which dominated Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School 2, 16-0.
