Glimpse of past to highlight creation of NMI Masters

Ray Lizama, who was part of the CNMI squad that won silver medals in the 1994 Micronesian Games is presiding the meeting at 5:30 p.m., at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room.

As in his case, basketball has not left the system of the other past team members. They are still around playing with today’s players.

He and the other members of the core group are inviting interested players and coaches to attend the meeting and plan for the Masters Basketball League for cagers 30 and above.

The organizers will discuss mission, goals and objectives and take a look at the history of local Masters athletic group as it relates to the World Masters Olympics.

The formulation of By Laws will also be discussed to be followed by the nomination of the Board of Governors and Officers.

The board will be composed of chairman, vice Chairman, treasurer, secretary, advisor, public and media relations officer, marketing officer, business and government affairs officer and international affairs officer.

League commissioners for 35 years and up, 40 years and up, and 45 years and up will also be nominated and the kick-off of respective league divisions will also be discussed.

Lizama is looking forward to have Masters’ basketball game in the CNMI that is sanctioned by FIBA.

Noting the prestige of the World Masters Olympic among the grass roots of the world’s basketball community, he said it’s about time for the NMI to be a part of the Masters’ basketball family.

A former commissioner BANMI, and was the group’s president from 1996 to 1997, Lizama also believes that players 35 years old and up have not lost their grip of the ball   yet. These veteran players, he said still have the potential to bring honor to the CNMI in the off-island events.
