Heads up for Art of War 6

The one-day tournament starts Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Trench Tech Gym in San Antonio. The Art of War is open to men and women of all levels and includes the following weight categories: bantamweight (115-135 lbs), featherweight (136-145 lbs), lightweight (146-155 lbs), welterweight (156-170 lbs), middleweight (171-185 lbs), light heavy (186-205 lbs), and heavyweight (206 lbs and above).

Winners in each category will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals.

“The purpose of this event is to spread the awareness of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a competition style and setting,” said Trench Tech president Cuki Alvarez in an email to Marianas Variety.

“This event caters to the unarmed combative practitioner looking to test his martial arts skills and technique without the use of striking or hits. Similar to judo and wrestling formats, the ‘Art of War’ allows a competitor to use various submission skills to submit his opponents. There is also an elaborate scoring system and competitors can win by points as well. More importantly, the ‘Art of War’ is a goodwill competition for everyone. It keeps the integrity of competitive fighting at an all time high and in check and allows us yet another avenue to continue making friendship through fighting.”

Entry fee is $10 per participant and $5 for spectators. For more information, call 670-483-4662 or visit www.trenchtech.tv.

Sponsors include: Docomo Pacific, Miller Lite, Monster and Pepsi, Budget Rent a Car, Century Hotel, Hagu Next, Konflikt MMA, and Fokai International.
