The league, led by coordinator Rey Perez, targets three seasons that will last up to December, 2012. Two divisions will be available – the men’s 18-and-above and junior (16-and-under) categories.
The first season is scheduled to launch on October 2 up to December 2011.
According to a press release, the GBL “ensures basketball safety in playing outdoors by promoting discipline and camaraderie to all players, coaches, team managers, and fans.”
By “playing in the same team for three consecutive seasons,” players may “maintain and improve basketball competitiveness in the CNMI.”
The league aims to support the local community and charitable beneficiaries, as well as reward prizes up to $1,000 with trophies and medals to the top team.
The second season continues from April to June, 2012 while the third season lasts from September to December, 2012.
The men’s division accepts eight to nine teams while the junior division accepts six.
Kick off date for the first season is October 2, 3 p.m. at the Garapan Basketball Court.
Special events will include All-Star games, the half-time half-court shoot out, and a 16-and-under exhibition match, among others.
