Hole-in-one prizes jumpstart HANMI golf tourney

According to the tournament committee, Bank of Hawaii will offer a $25,000 prize, Century Insurance is putting up $10,000 at Hole No. 14, and Traders Insurance Co. is sponsoring $5,000 for Hole No. 12.

The first 144 paid registrants will vie for cash and numerous in-kind prizes. Proceeds of the tournament will be contributed to the Mt. Tapochau Development Project led by HANMI.

“We’re seeing a positive response from sponsors again this year, and our hole-in-one sponsors are setting the tone for what we expect to be another successful tournament with great prizes for all our winners,” said tournament chairman Das Krishnan.

Early bird tournament fee is $100 (deadline is June 1). The fee includes green fee and the awards banquet. The fee increases to $120 by June 2. For an additional $20, players may also compete for ‘nearest to the pin,’ ‘most accurate drive,’ and ‘longest drive.’ The tournament will start at 7 a.m. Registration forms will be available shortly at Coral Ocean Point, Lao Lao Bay Golf and Resort, Fiesta Resort and Spa, Hyatt Regency Saipan, and Marianas Country Club.

The tournament features six categories: Championship Flight, A Flight, B Flight, C Flight, Seniors (55 years-and-over), and Ladies. Players in the Championship Flight must have 0-5 handicaps, while those in the A Flight are 6-10 handicappers. The B Flight is for players with handicaps between 11-17, and the C Flight is for players with handicaps above 18.

First place winners from all flights will receive $500, second place finishers will receive $300, and third place winners will win $200. Trophies will be given to the top-three winners from all flights as well. Top winners will also earn a hotel stay at a HANMI member hotel.

Champions and first and second runner up for the female golfers will be determined using a double peoria handicap system. The awards banquet will be held at Saipan Grand Hotel’s Seaside Hall at 6 p.m. on the tournament day.
