Hoops lessons go in full blast

BANMI said it has started the NMI-wide basketball workshop that will enhance the skills of the said sports’ aficionados in the islands.

BANMI president and development officer Elias Rangamar and Referee Association president, Gabriel White are conducting  basketball workshop on Rota that started today and will continue until Oct. 2.

The four-day course will cover many aspects of basketball game that include administration, strategic planning, developing competition calendar, orientation level coaching, refereeing and introduction of mini basketball game and rules.  

Noting the success of the recently held Oceania Basketball Championships on Saipan, BANMI has embarked on promotion of the said sport from the grassroots level all the way up to the elites.  

As soon as the workshop on Rota is done, Rangamar will be conduct a Level 1 coaching clinic to help develop of coaching skills among basketball followers on Saipan.

It will be held on Oct. 10, 17 and 24 at Marianas High School Gym. Sessions are from 8 a.m., to 5 p.m.

All interested individuals, teachers and club coaches who wish to improve their knowledge of the sport are encouraged to participate.

This, BANMI said will bring NMI sports community to a higher level of playing the game in the future.

The basketball lessons will take up to 23 hours. These include 13.75 hours of sports specific work and 9.25 hours of coaching principles.  

No fee is needed but an enrolment form must be filled out. A course outline will be distributed.  

BANMI recommends that the minimum age of all participants be 18 years old.

The participants, BANMI added, must attend the full course in order to be eligible for accreditation.
