HOPWOOD, Tanapag and Dandan middle schools kicked off the PSS-SBL Interscholastic Fastpitch Softball League SY24-25 by defeating their respective opponents in the boys middle school division opening games at the Dandan softball field on Saturday.
Hopwood displayed dominance as they nearly silenced Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 22-1.
Hopwood drew first blood in the top of the first inning led by Caleb Cabrera who brought in Jesse Santos and Paul Guerrero for a two-RBI double. In the bottom half, Hopwood took out FMS’ first three batters to retain a 2-0 advantage.
The lead grew further out of reach in the second inning as FMS struggled to find the strike zone while Hopwood applied constant pressure by stealing bases and advancing their runners to eventually score eight runs for a double-digit lead, 10-0.
Although Hopwood excelled on the offensive end, their true strength came from their pitcher Jesse Santos, who showcased a pitching arm of a pro, striking out a total of six batters and allowing FMS one run only.
Hopwood added seven runs in the top of the third, three more in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to seal a whopping 22-1 victory.
Winners, too
Joining the winner’s circle were Tanapag and Dandan middle schools.
Tanapag scored 10 runs in the top first and 10 more in the top of the second before finishing off Chacha Oceanview Middle School, 25-0, in just four innings.
Dandan had a tougher game, but its players pulled a sudden rally in the bottom of the third against Mount Carmel School en route to a 12-4 win.
