The Huevos were one of 10 teams that played in Saturday’s knock-out games, where they faced team M-Squad in the championships. Like previous matches, both teams fought it out in a ‘best of three’ format. Scoring 10 wins in last Friday’s round-robin pool, the Huevos were a tough group to beat for the M-Squads.
With one player left from both teams, a tiebreaker was played after round one. The M-Squads brought the game into round two, but were quickly finished off. M-Squad’s Nicko Salem dodged a few hits before being taken down by Adam Hardwicke.
The Huevos gained momentum in the end, as they took the M-Squads out one by one. They crossed teams Housekeeping and Kaduku-Kaduka before reaching the finals. Joining Hardwicke in team Huevos Grandes were Thomas Silberberger, Brian O Laughlin, Jackie Van Dam, Brian Morris, Daniel Stafford, Matt Grosenbach, Tiberius Mocanu, Steven Grandiner, and Team Captain Amanda Allen.
Despite being pushed to second place, team M-Squad scored their biggest win of the day when they defeated Ideal Team, who scored 10 victories last Friday. Facing the M-Squads in the quarterfinals was the Finance Team.
Team M-Squad included Joey Lucido, Omar Quindoza, Valerie Gilarigen, John Dacanay, Ovette Valdez, Nicko Salery, Chao Almovela, Joanna Crozana, Nardo Seich, Coach Syedur Rahapian and Team Captain Rod Ornopia.
Nearly $800 was raised for PIC’s cancer fund. Team Kaduku won the ‘Most Creative Banner’ award, while the Huevos won “Best Uniform.” The Huevos also received a trophy and two cases of beer as part of their prizes.
