Hyun Son tops Ladies Flight

HYUN Son bagged the Ladies Flight title of the Joeten Memorial Classic after shooting a total gross of 73 at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course on Saturday.

On the front nine, the veteran golfer cleared the first four holes with pars. After tightening her grip, she improved her game with three consecutive birdies on holes #5, #6, #7, followed by two more pars to lead three-under par with a gross of 33 — the best front nine score of the day.

The back nine proved to be the tougher half of the course with Hyun  making four bogeys to end with a gross of 40.

But thanks to Son’s output on the front nine, she completed the tournament one-under par with a gross total of 73 to clinch first place in the Ladies Flight.

Coming in second was Young Min Choi with 79 gross total while Young Hee Yoo finished third with 81.

Isaac Aguon came in second with a gross total of 82 while third place went to Sixtus Aquino with 84.

Committee Chair Shigeki Tenorio expressed his gratitude to all the participants of the tournament, which raises funds for the Joeten Daidai Foundation, a charitable organization.

He said they are also celebrating the 75th anniversary of Joeten and the 101st birthday of its founder, the late Jose “Joeten” Camacho Tenorio.

“I would like to thank all of you for coming here today. It’s really meaningful to us. You guys came today to play golf — for us! We are truly blessed to have strong partners and I hope our friendship truly lasts long,” Shigeki Tenorio said.
