HYUN “Sunny” Son ruled the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s October tournament with a net score of 77 at the Kingfisher Golf Links on Saturday.
The course conditions were ideal with sunny, clear skies, but for some reason, most of the players struggled to find their swing.
Son, however, was one of the few who managed to make the best of a less-than-ideal situation.
On the front nine, Son, along with Yuko Togawa, led the competition with a gross of 42.
Son took the solo lead as the players transitioned to the back nine. She nearly mirrored her initial output with a gross of 43 to hold a gross total of 85.
Sporting a handicap of 8, Son clinched first place with a net score of 77.
Her closest rival was Janet Torres, who shot an even 46 on the front and back nines for a gross total of 92. Aided by a handicap of 14, she was bumped to the front of the line but was shy one stroke, settling for second place with a net score of 78.
Finishing third was Togawa. Despite a strong start, she lost her touch on the back nine, shooting a gross of 47 for a total gross score of 89. With a handicap of 5, she ended the day with a net score of 84.
