Jake Albert, Andres Camacho triumph in Ring of Fire 2

JAKE Albert and Andres Camacho emerged victorious in their respective bouts in Trench Tech’s Ring of Fire 2 at Garapan Central Park on Saturday.

In the boxing co-main event of the night, Guam Muay Thai’s Jake Albert outscored Trech Tech’s Ram “Korean Blood” Lee in all three rounds via unanimous decision.

As soon as the bell rang, both fighters sprang into action with a series of exchanges.

However, it was Albert who controlled the pace as he constantly pressed forward with quick jabs and good footwork to roll past incoming punches. After getting a sense of Albert’s style, Lee tried to balance the tempo with forward pressure of his own, but Albert still had the momentum on his side, using clinches to force Lee’s back against the corner before unloading a flurry of blows.

Despite Albert’s strong start, Lee managed to keep the exchange going throughout the second round.

Although he was able to push back Albert, it came at a cost as Lee started to tire out. With Lee’s hands down, Albert unleashed several blows during clinches and slipped shots off the break to rack up points.

The action continued through the third and final round with both fighters evenly matched, but in the end, it was Albert’s hands that were raised as he defeated Lee via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

Pressure

In an interview after the bout, Albert said his plan for the first round was to “feel him out, see what he does, and how he throws his punches. After the first round I knew exactly what to do, and it was to keep pressure on him.”

At the end of the fight, Albert knew that he was the victor but he was not fully satisfied with his performance. “I wish I could have done more by listening to my coaches and threw more combos,” he said.

Albert said his opponent, Ram “Korean Blood” Lee, “did great and  pushed through in all three rounds.”

Albert said Ring of Fire 2 was a great event. “Thank you to Cuki Alvarez, his gym fighters, and to his sponsors for making another ROF event successful.”

Albert said the fights of the night were the main event between Shane “Pikaboo” Alvarez and Isaac “Tiger Heart” Crisostomo, and the super fight between Ethan Effleje and Andres Camacho.

“Both were really good matches,” Albert said.

Super fight

In the first round of the super fight between Guam’s Ethan Affleje and Saipan’s Andres Camacho, both fighters were evenly matched. However, as the fight progressed, fatigue started to affect Camacho’s performance. Affleje took advantage with relentless blows and kicks.

As Affleje’s rampage continued, the referee saw enough and stopped the fight with 33 seconds into the third round as Affleje earned victory via TKO.

Joining the winner’s circle were Boni Sagana, who won via unanimous decision over Jose Mafnas; Jimmy Polk via unanimous decision over Tyrese Bokuku; Keith Sablan via unanimous decision over Mike Camacho; Phil Gregorio via unanimous decision over Nick Taisacan; Marnel Cornelio via unanimous decision over Jeff Quitugua; Justin Agulto via unanimous decision over Edwin Kim; Aiden Nakaifes via unanimous decision over Mateo Salvalosa; Nate Zhuang via split decision over Teipo Asep; John Lee via unanimous decision over Saips They; Donovan Santos via split decision over Justin Palabay; Jeremiah Salvador via TKO at 1:33 in round 3 over Josh Mesa; Jose Camacho via verbal submission in round 1 over Travis Kaipat; Dylan Benavente via TKO at 1:25 of round 2 over Mark Azracon; Dyan Pomdi via TKO at 00:36 of round 1 over John Dela Cruz; Bengbeng Palacios via forfeit over Gable DeChavez; Thomas Agulto via split decision over Jerome Reyes; Jun San Nicolas via TKO at 00:55 of round 2 over Tyron Tumada; Lorenzo Reyes drew with Dion Ogo; Kody Palacios via unanimous decision over Josh Joson; and Jyro Cruz via unanimous decision over Roan De Ocampo.
