King and Queen of the Diamond sluggers to meet again this weekend

The second leg that will give the other teams the opportunity to join first leg winner, Advance Xterminators in the list of squads for final berth is set for Aug. 1 and 2 at the Capitol Hill Softball Field.

Trophies and cases of beer await the winning teams for first, second and third place. The team that will win the first place will secure a slot in the tournament of champions that is set for Oct. 17 and 18.

The second and third place teams will join Zamu Gear and Jets in the wild card group.

Advance Xterminators defeated Zamu Gear and clinched final berth last June 14 when Manny Sablan connected a run-scoring single after an in-field showdown that handed both team scoreless innings. It was Sablan’s third single during the entire one-day tournament that broke spree of scoreless hits.

He drove in Jerry Ayuyu for the winning run.

Most fly balls launched by sluggers of both teams landed in fielders’ hands making the third base as far as base runners could go during the straight six innings.

The winner of Round 5 or the Saipan leg will represent Saipan in the 2009 Budweiser King and Queens of the Diamond Softball Tournament that Saipan will host on Nov. 12 to 15.  The other King & Queen of the Diamond island champions are teams from Guam, Palau and Pohnpei.

The third leg on Saipan will be held on    Sept. 26 to 27 at the Capitol Hill Softball Field and the entrance fee is still $150.

The fourth or consolation round will be on Oct. 3 to 4 at the same softball field.  There will be no entrance fee for this round. Second and third placers should have played in at least two rounds to qualify for the fourth leg.
