Lady Blue Jays’ Kiana Camacho is about to hit a single during a ladies division game of the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League at the Dandan baseball field.
GOING into the playoffs, the Lady Blue Jays secured the top spot in the overall standings by slipping past the Boleras, 3-2, in the ladies division of the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League at the Dandan baseball field on Sunday. It was the Lady Blue Jays’ eighth win.
Both teams failed to score in the opening inning, but the Lady Blue Jays broke the silence in the second as Alannah Sablan and Keolani Rios managed to safely fill two bases, but with two outs. Cassie Camacho then connected a single, which brought in Sablan while Rios capitalized off a fielder’s choice to grasp a 2-0 lead before the Boleras could stop the bleeding.
In the top of the third inning, the Boleras nearly scored a run as Kate Cruz made her way to third base. However, the Lady Blue Jays’ shortstop, Kianu Aldan, caught a flyball and threw to first base for the three outs needed. Then, in the bottom half, Aldan rounded the bases thanks to Kiana Camacho’s sacrifice fly to extend the deficit, 3-0.
The Boleras found their second wind in the next three innings, which were highlighted by defensive stops and double plays to keep the Lady Blue Jays at bay.
In the top of the seventh and final inning, Boleras pulled out all the tricks in their bag and were rewarded with two runs with Kate Cruz earning an RBI.
But the Lady Blue Jays recovered in the nick of time to notch the three outs needed to seal the deal, 3-2.
