MOUNT Carmel School survived a frantic early surge from Kagman Elementary School and managed to deliver a spirited second-half performance to secure a narrow 4-3 win in the elementary coed division of the PSS-NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League SY25-26 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
MCS and KagES traded goals in a fast-paced first half.
MCS struck first just two minutes in, as Thomas Flores showcased smooth footwork to find the back of the net. KagES responded immediately, with Tristen Carino scoring a minute later to even the match at 1-1.
After a few minutes of back-and-forth action, Flores bagged his second goal, but Carino quickly answered again, leveling the score at 2-2. KagES then grabbed their first lead when Brayden Brennfleck beat a defender and slipped in a shot in the 12th minute, 3-2. Their momentum didn’t last long, however, as Flores completed his hat trick at the 15th minute to send the teams into halftime tied at 3-3.
Fatigue became a factor in the second half as both sides struggled to maintain pace. Flores once again proved decisive, capitalizing on a defensive lapse in the 24th minute to net the game-winner and put MCS ahead 4-3.
Despite having time to respond, KagES were stifled by MCS’s relentless pressure and were unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle.
