CHCC and CUC secured their first wins in the 2026 Priority Care Inter Business/Government League on Tuesday, defeating their respective opponents in tightly contested games at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
CHCC triumphed thanks to a second-half rally, beating PSS 73-61.
The game began as a defensive grind, with both teams exchanging baskets in the opening quarter. PSS relied on Mii Tekopua, who scored seven points, while CHCC countered with balanced play from Kevin Leomo, Sean Apasan, and Jawn Joyner. The teams were tied at 11-11 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, CHCC found its rhythm. Jack Lizama and Jaysey Magno contributed key baskets alongside Leomo, Apasan, and Joyner to seize a 32-27 lead.
The turning point came in the third quarter. CHCC’s interior defense held strong, preventing PSS from closing the gap, while JJ Taman and James Phillip came off the bench, drew fouls, and converted free throws. A 23-18 run extended CHCC’s lead to 55-45.
Despite a late push by PSS, key players fouled out in the fourth quarter, allowing CHCC to maintain the upper hand and secure the 73-61 victory.
CUC vs. Federals
In the second game, CUC edged the Federals 78-77 in a gritty battle.
The Feds jumped out to a strong start, led by Jeff Che and Joe Pangelinan, and took an early lead. CUC matched their intensity, with Ray Olopai scoring 19 points in the second quarter to help the team take control, 45-37. Perimeter shooting ultimately proved too much for the Feds.
In the second half, the Feds attempted a comeback, with Ron Gamboa, Leo Apelo, and Che leading the charge. But CUC’s Jay Art Palmes led the third quarter with nine points, while Frank Nakamura and Lloyd Tarope hit clutch three-pointers in the fourth to hold off the Feds and run away with a 78-77 victory.
