YOUNG athletes in the CNMI are lacing up their sneakers for a global celebration of fitness and fun as Northern Marianas Athletics hosts the World Athletics Kids’ Athletics Day 2026 this Saturday, May 30, at the Oleai Sports Complex.

This year’s event carries special significance. Launched globally in 2022, the Kids’ Athletics Day campaign marks its five-year milestone in 2026. Over the past several years, the initiative has focused on using track and field to promote physical health, social inclusion, and community spirit worldwide.

The core mission remains clear: ensuring that every child — regardless of background or athletic ability — has a space to participate, play, and experience a sense of belonging. Organizers and supporters worldwide are encouraging participants and families to share their experiences on social media using the official hashtag #KidsAthleticsDay.

Designed for youth participants aged 12 and under, the event emphasizes foundational movement skills over competitive pressure.

Young participants can look forward to a rotation of activities, including:

• Kids Athletics Hop, Run, Play stations designed to develop fundamental motor skills; and

• Shuttle relays to introduce teamwork and speed.

There is no minimum age requirement to participate; however, all children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a registered parent or guardian for the duration of the event. The accompanying adult assumes full responsibility for the child’s safety.

For community members interested in volunteering or learning more, Northern Marianas Athletics can be reached at (670) 788-0929.
