THE aftermath of Super Typhoon Sinlaku has forced the G-Rollers youth basketball club to officially cancel its off-island trip to Guam, where the team was slated to compete in the 3rd Yimpact 5×5 Invitational Basketball Tournament scheduled from June 25 to 29.
This year marked the second time the local youth basketball organization received an invitation to the prestigious event. The G-Rollers had planned to send teams in three divisions — 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and-under.
According to coach Joe Diaz, the teams were fully prepared and eager to compete against regional talent on the Guam courts. However, the extensive damage and community disruption caused by Typhoon Sinlaku ultimately made travel logistics and participation impossible.
While the withdrawal is a disappointing setback for the young athletes who trained for the opportunity, the club’s focus now shifts to local recovery and rebuilding efforts.
